WAR: January Producer's Letter

Posted by Suzie Ford on Jan 31st, 2011 / 2 Comments

In a surprising announcement, the January issue of the Warhammer Online Producer's Letter has revealed that Carrie Gouskas has moved on to "another aspect" of WAR's development and that James Casey is taking over her duties. What Gouskas is working on will be detailed at a later date. In the meantime, Casey discusses plans for the upcoming year including patch scheduling, the restructuring of Scenarios, live events, account entitlements, and announces that server mergers may be forthcoming.

Finally, I’d like to address a topic that I’m sure is close to everyone’s hearts; server population. We’ve been monitoring the situations on each of our servers in every market. Our current situation on most of the servers shows us numbers that fall within traditionally acceptable parameters, notably our peak population values. Peak population is where we see the most activity on the server; during what is considered prime-time for the server or ‘peak’ hours. However, we understand that population is a key component to enjoying the game. As part of an effort to ensure off-peak hours are as enjoyable as peak hours can be, we are actively discussing our plans for lower population servers. If you haven’t heard anything to this effect by the time this letter sees print, you should see something very soon. We are committed to ensuring that we do what is needed to make sure players enjoy their experience in WAR.

Warhammer Online devs have revealed the first information about upcoming changes to both the Magus and Engineer careers. In particular, turrets and Daemons will receive some attention from the dev team to make them more effective for those who have chosen these careers.

  • For Engineers, a portion of the character's Ballistic Skill, Weapon Skill, and Wounds from equipment will also affect their turrets.
  • For the Magus, a portion of the character's Intelligence and Wounds from equipment will also affect their daemons. Additionally, the daemons' autoattacks will now deal magical damage - Elemental for the Pink and Blue Horrors, and Spirit for the Flamer.
  • For both careers, the character will begin receiving a new effect while they remain near their turret / daemon - Improvised Upgrades for the Engineer, and Unholy Empowerment for the Magus. This effect will start as a +4% damage buff, and will increase every 2 seconds by another 4%, up to a max of +20% damage after 10 seconds. If the character moves away from their turret / daemon, the effect will begin dropping back down, eventually fading from them entirely until they return to their turret / daemon's side.

Devs are looking for player feedback regarding these announced changes so be sure to read more at the Warhammer Herald.

WAR: Wild Hunt Extended

Posted by Suzie Ford on Sep 10th, 2010 / 0 Comments

The Warhammer Online Herald has been updated with information indicating that the Wild Hunt has been extended until September 14th. The extension is due to the disabling the Live Event Herald NPC which was causing instability issues on WAR servers. The NPC will most likely be reactivated after routine maintenance on Tuesday, September 14th.

PLEASE NOTE: This does not affect players ability to complete all of the tasks associated with the Wild Hunt, simply the ability to collect the rewards associated with the Live Event. Players will once more be able to collect their rewards once the Live Event Herald has been re-enabled following weekly maintenance.

As a result of the Live Event Herald being temporarily disabled, we will be extending the period in which players are able to collect their rewards for the Wild Hunt by a week. As a reminder, the Wild Hunt Live Event will conclude on 9/14/2010, so be sure to complete your tasks prior to Tuesday’s maintenance.

Warhammer Producer's Letter

Posted by Suzie Ford on Sep 1st, 2010 / 0 Comments

The Warhammer Online team recently announced the RvR Pack during GamesCom. The announcement seemed to create quite a stir given how few details were released at the time. In this month's Producer's Letter, Carrie Gouskas begins by talking about some of the many changes that have been implemented over the past year. Then she moves on to a recap of the RvR Pack and the 're-envisioning' of oRvR for players.

  • NOT F2P: Gouskas puts to rest the speculation that WAR will be going F2P: We’re learning lessons from micro-transaction driven games; however we’re not interested in directly selling things like armor progression or other piecemeal power options.
  • New Skaven Themed RvR Zone: The new zone will be integrated into the existing Tier 4 campaign and supplement it rather than becoming a siphon.
  • Skaven: WIth the new RvR pack, the Skaven playable character will be introduced.
  • Power, Progression, and Personality will tie into RvR.
  • RR Cap Increase to 100

So there it is: No Hype, All Fight. More news about the RvR Pack will be coming in the weeks ahead. Come and join Andy Belford and myself at Games Day UK on September 26th 2010; we’ll be there to talk more about the future of WAR and our  2 year anniversary. We’ll also be giving out exclusive in game items and, provided they don’t get stuck in customs this time, WAR T-Shirts, Hats and who knows what else.

Warhammer Online Updates Today

Posted by Suzie Ford on Aug 17th, 2010 / 0 Comments

Warhammer Online devs have announced that all servers are currently offline to deploy the v1.3.6, "Against All Odds", content update. Devs anticipate that servers will be down until approximately 2:00 p.m. EST. Changes coming with the new patch include the item appearance system, the redesigned Sovereign Armor set, an enhanced Auction House and the RvR 'against all odds' system.

Against All Odds: A Realm outnumbered within an RvR Lake will now receive a scaling bonus to Experience, Renown and Influence based on the odds stacked against them, becoming active when a Realm is outnumbered in a specific Lake by 20% or more.

Check out the full 'Against All Odds' patch notes.

The Warhammer Online team has announced that it is preparing for "significant" changes to the auction house feature. As a result, the ability to create new in-game auctions will be disabled starting today. There is no ETA on when changes will be going into effect or when players will be able to create auctions.

In preparation for the significant changes to the Auction House being introduced in Game Update 1.3.6, we will be disabling the ability to create new in game auctions, effective Friday afternoon, 8/13/2010. Already posted player auctions will run their normal course and will still be accessible for bidding or buy out.

The Warhammer Herald has a new announcement indicating that the WAR forums will be joining the BioWare Social Network. According to the post, players will "have the benefits of being part of a larger community, one with a passion for games as big as our own." To facilitate questions from the community, the WAR team has put together a short Q&A and will provide more information this week as the date of the transfer arrives.

Q: Will my existing forum profile and posts be transferred to the BioWare Social Network?

A: No, this is clean slate. We will provide an archive of the old forums in the near future.

Q: If I have a preexisting BioWare Social Network Account, do I need to create a new account?

A: No! Your current BioWare Social Network account can be associated with your WAR account!

Q: Who will be able to post in the WAR: BioWare Social Network forums?

A: Active subscribers and Endless Trial accounts will be able to post in all of the same forums they are currently able to post in.

Head to the Warhammer Herald to read the rest of the Q&A.

Warhammer Online players who want a preview of things to come will want to log into the public test server (PTS). There are several significant changes coming in the next patch including:

  • Fashion visibility: Players will be able to toggle which clothing items show and which should be considered 'equipped' for stats. No need to sacrifice looking good for maximum protection.
  • Sovereign Armor sets have been redesigned and Split armor sets have been introduced. Each career will have multiple armor options available.
  • Scaling bonus, Against All Odds, introduced. This is implemented when one's realm is outnumbered.
Of course a PTS phase wouldn’t be complete without our signature developer lead focused tests and Q&A sessions! Join the WAR Development team, Friday, July  30th at 4:00 PM EDT/22:00 CET, for a Q&A session to be followed up by our normal PTS Stability test (with a special twist!) at 8:00 PM EDT/02:00 CET.

We’ll be doing it one more time on Friday, August 6th at 8:00 PM EDT/02:00 CET as we take to the RvR Lakes to test out the all new “Against All Odds” system with a Developer Q&A following the test.

Read the full patch note on the official site.
